I have more data like this. You should use strptime : this function parses a string representing a time according to a format. Locale information is not used by ctime.

I have worked with many companies before, and this usually never comes up in the work place, as it usually has been dealt with. I use this for my own stuff: time. Learn more. Ask Question. I want to convert the contents to datetimethen store that in a db with timestamp.

Why not just do from datetime import datetime datetime.

Converting from strings like that is less than ideal, but this question gets that answer. Active Oldest Votes. So in your case just try the following line, since the default format is the one from ctime: import datetime import time datetime.

When you create a CTime object, set the nDST parameter to 0 to indicate that standard time is in effect, or to a value larger than 0 to indicate that daylight saving time is in effect, or to a value less than zero to have the C run-time library code compute whether standard time or daylight saving time is in effect.

If not set, its value is undefined and the return value from mktime is unpredictable.

A companion class, CTimeSpanrepresents a time interval. Most member functions are inline. Note that this will be adjusted to your local time. Can have one of three values:. Automatically computes whether standard time or daylight savings time is in effect. CTime ; Constructs an uninitialized CTime object. This constructor allows you to define CTime object arrays. You should initialize such arrays with valid times before using. This constructor expects a UTC time and converts the result to a local time before storing the result.

CTime int, int, This constructor makes the appropriate conversion to UTC. The Debug version of the Microsoft Foundation Class Library asserts if one or more of the time components are out of range. You must validate the arguments before calling. This constructor expects a local time. This constructor assumes a time based on UTC and automatically converts the value to local time before storing the result.

Other characters in the formatting string are copied unchanged to the returned string. See the run-time function strftime for a list of formatting codes. A CString that contains the formatted time. This method throws an exception if the date-time value to format does not range from midnight, January 1, through December 31, Universal Coordinated Time UTC.

See the run-time function strftime for details. Stores the resulting time in the referenced dbts structure.Today's Posts. Quick Links.

Tips and Tutorials. Administrator Emeritus. Join Date: Aug Unix keeps 3 timestamps for each file: mtime, ctime, and atime. Most people seem to understand atime access timeit is when the file was last read. There does seem to be some confusion between mtime and ctime though.

Python time ctime() Method

There is no clue to be had by pondering those words. Instead you need to focus on what is being changed. It is the age of the data in the file. Whenever mtime changes, so does ctime. But ctime changes a few extra times.

Barriers to learning

For example, it will change if you change the owner or the permissions on the file. Let's look at a concrete example. We run a package called Samba that lets PC's access files. To change the Samba configuration, I just edit a file called smb. This changes mtime and ctime. I don't need to take any other action to tell Samba that I changed that file. Every now and then Samba looks at the mtime on the file. If the mtime has changed, Samba rereads the file.

Later that night our backup system runs. These routines have the following functions: time. For timethere are two versions, a standard version and a VMS version.

If you use the f77 command-line option -lV77then you get the VMS version for time and for idate ; otherwise, you get the standard versions. The function time returns an integer with the time since GMT, January 1,measured in seconds. This is the value of the operating system clock. The VMS version of time is a subroutine that gets the current system time as a character string.

Time, in the form hh : mm : ss hhmmand ss are each two digits: hh is the hour; mm is the minute; ss is the second. System time as character string. The format of the ctime returned value is shown in the following example.

It is described in the man page ctime 3C. The subroutine is called by: call ltime stimetarray. The subroutine is: call gmtime stimetarray. Here are the tarray values for ltime and gmtime : index, units, and range: 1. These values are defined by the C library routine ctime 3Cwhich explains why the system may return a count of seconds greater than See also: idate 3Fand fdate 3F.

These are versions of the corresponding routines ctimegmtimeand ltimeto provide portability on bit environments. Previous : system: Execute a System Command Next : topen, tclose, tread, Local This routine dissects a system time into month, day, and so forth, for the local time zone.

For the meaning of the elements in tarraysee the next section. Dissect a system time into month, day, and so forth, local time. Dissect a system time into month, day, and so forth, GMT.The asctime and mktime functions both take an argument representing broken-down time which is a representation separated into year, month, day, and so on.

The value is positive if daylight saving time is in effect, zero if it is not, and negative if the information is not available. The call ctime t is equivalent to asctime localtime t.

The return value points to a statically allocated string which might be overwritten by subsequent calls to any of the date and time functions. The function also sets the external variables tznametimezoneand daylight see tzset 3 with information about the current timezone. It need not set tznametimezoneand daylight. The gmtime function converts the calendar time timep to broken-down time representation, expressed in Coordinated Universal Time UTC.

It may return NULL when the year does not fit into an integer. The return value points to a statically allocated struct which might be overwritten by subsequent calls to any of the date and time functions. The localtime function converts the calendar time timep to broken-down time representation, expressed relative to the user's specified timezone. The function acts as if it called tzset 3 and sets the external variables tzname with information about the current timezone, timezone with the difference between Coordinated Universal Time UTC and local standard time in seconds, and daylight to a nonzero value if daylight savings time rules apply during some part of the year.

The asctime function converts the broken-down time value tm into a null-terminated string with the same format as ctime.

The mktime function converts a broken-down time structure, expressed as local time, to calendar time representation.

Calling mktime also sets the external variable tzname with information about the current timezone. Return Value. Example programs for the time functions are given below. Please note that other C compilers may not support this setdate function except turbo C. This function is used to get the CPU time. This function is used to return string that contains date and time informations. Tm structure contents are interpreted by this function as calendar time. This time is converted into string. Enter new date in the format day month year 01 12 Now, current system date is As you know, Unix filesystems store a number of timestamps for each file.

This said, it's usually possible to deduce the same from ctime and mtime if they match — this probably means that's when the file was created.

Access time shows the last time the data from a file or directory was accessed — read by one of the Unix processes directly or through commands and scripts. Due to its definition, atime attribute must be updated — meaning written to a disk — every time a Unix file is accessed, even if it was just a read operation. Modern Unix and Unix like operating systems have special mount options to optimise atime usage or disable it completely.

For instance, in Linux kernel the following atime optimisations are supported when mounting filesystem:. It does not change with owner or permission changes, and is therefore used for tracking the actual changes to data of the file itself.

Lots of common system administration tasks can be helped, if not completed, using knowledge of atime, ctime and mtime attributed:. The simplest way to confirm the times associated with a file is to use ls command. Timestamps are shown when using the long-format output of ls command, ls -l :.

If we want to see the last access time for this file, atime — you need to use -lu options for ls. The output will probably show some later time:. To show you how this works, I'll change the ownership of the file and then run the same 3 ls commands to show you that only the. I run the date command just before doing anything else so that you can compare the times:. In Linux distributions, you will probably find a stat command, which can be used to show all of the times in a more convenient way, and among plenty of other useful information about your file:.

Hi, This page was very helpful today! Do you know of any way to see the "create time", so that I could compare it to the last updated time, in order to see how long it took a file to download?

Thanks, Tom. The above mentioned 3 times is all we have. The problem is getting them as no user tools seem to have access…. Thanks I needed to create a routine for a job to delete old files from the file system.

This page is simple to understand and was helpfull to me. Thanks, just what I was looking for, especially the comment below about create time not being tracked which is what I was really after. I have seen though that our backups seemed to update the changed time whenever they run so it is pretty useless to me for trying to find out other info.
